| Bio: | Due to the fact that past experiences here have left me (justifiably) paranoid about who I have on my F-list, do not add me unless I know you. I am a Southern Christian, and Slidell is my hometown. I heard recently a 16 year old boy was struck and killed by a drunk driver in the Atlanta area. It got me to thinking. I was thinking about how I have gotten into the conscious/unconscious habit of looking at the list of obituaries on the front page of our local newspaper. Usually, it's people who happen to make it to their 70s or 80s. But sometimes, it's their 20s. Or their teens. And every so often, an infant. Life is but a vapor. "Dust in the wind," that popular song by Kansas says. You can get up in the morning, walk outside, slip on something, crack your head and the next moment, you are in eternity. That's how fragile life is. And we are not guaranteed the next five minutes. Let alone the next five years. So I wanted to ask you a question: Do you know where you will spend eternity when you die? Maybe you are afraid you will go to hell. It's real. Bill Wiese spent 23 minutes there. Maybe you think you will go to heaven, but you are not sure (Don Piper spent 90 minutes there.). (We also have untold numbers of stories regarding the existence of angels and demons.) What if I told you there was a way to get to heaven, without any doubt? God wants you there: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 KJV) God loves you. Do you know how much He loves you? He asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. Abraham lay Jacob on the altar, and was about to put the knife into him, when God stopped him. You see, it was just a test of faith. But when God decided to sacrifice His son, He was not going to stop at the last second. For what He was after was not a test of faith, but an act of love: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV) Now, of course, most people know this verse as it is the most referred to of all the Bible. But what about the next one? For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17 KJV) Yes, we can be saved from an eternity in hell. But how? 1) We have to admit we are sinners with no hope: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) 2) That we believe Jesus Christ gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice in payment for our sins, not just yesterday, but for today, and for all time! But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 KJV) 3) That He rose from the dead three days later: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9 KJV) 4) That you call upon Him to be your personal Lord and Saviour: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13 KJV) And the best part? You cannot lose that salvation! And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave [them] me, is greater than all; and no [man] is able to pluck [them] out of my Father's hand. (John 10:28-29 KJV) Come to Jesus, and rejoice in knowing for certain you will be going to be with Him, His Father (and, yes, me) one day!! ![]() | |
